In postapocalyptic Africa, the world has changed drastically, however still in one region genocide between tribes occurs. A woman who survives the annihilation of her village and a terrible rape from an enemy general wanders into the desert to die. Instead, she gives birth to an angry baby girl named Onyesonwu, who has unique features. As Onye grows, it doesn't take her long to understand that she is physically and socially marked by circumstances of her violent conception.
